NVH Vehicle Simulator drives early targets' sign-off

8th February, 2010

Having decision makers sign-off NVH targets for vehicles in the early stages of the development process is no longer a distant dream.

Normally it is difficult for NVH engineers to get management to sign-off NVH targets well before physical prototypes are available. The challenge is to communicate targets efficiently to non- NVH experts, and this usually means hearing target levels and sound quality using a physical prototype as a source. Until now.

The NVH Simulator suite of tools allows the communication problem to be addressed by auralising NVH data using advanced sound-simulation techniques.

For example, the On-road Simulator allows management, without special training, to evaluate the sound of virtual vehicles, and even benchmark competitive vehicles, under real driving conditions. They can then decide on NVH targets with confidence.

But target setting is only one application of the NVH Simulator. Other tools in the suite help the engineering of vehicles to deliver those targets.
